Day Trips & Outings:
Many of the children rarely leave their community. Day Trips take the children to beautiful places in Jamaica for a high energy day of team challenges and fun. Two eight-year-old children on last year’s trips had never even been to the beach before. The Trips help children and young people by giving them exposure to a wider environment, new places, new experiences, new ideas and challenging them to reassess habitual ways of living and thinking.
Journey to Freedom Pilgrimage:
We first ran a Pilgrimage in Jamaica in 2007, where participants learned about some of the history by visiting places on the island where various remarkable figures of Jamaica’s past walked, lived and (in some cases) died for their cause. While visiting these communities the participants also served through various community work projects, So we are revisiting this model and developing it, also in partnership with other organisations, as a way of helping Jamaican young people in particular (but also visitors) to have a better sense of Jamaica’s story and those who had a positive impact on it as they served in courageous and inspiring ways
